The youth, believed to be aged 14 to 16, was filmed by a mate who put the video on Snapchat.

There were no injuries but resident Donna Fisher said: “If any car had hit the trolley there would have been deaths. It’s terrifying.

“It defies belief that anyone would think it’s a good idea.”

Police are appealing for help in tracing the pair after the incident on the A379 in Exeter, Devon.
