GMB calls to halt GKN deal

A UNION wants the Government to block the takeover of engineering giant GKN by “asset strippers”.

The GMB ramped-up efforts after investment firm Melrose won narrow shareholder backing for the controversial deal.

It wants Business Secretary Greg Clark to step in after claims shortterm investors potentially influenced shareholders.

Ross Murdoch, of the GMB, said: “He must stop this deal before it damages the UK economy further.”
