Win or lose he was so classy

MORE than £12million worth of Brits’ luggage was lost, damaged, delayed or stolen last year, a study by insurer Direct Line reveals. RAY Wilkins was a classy, silky footballer but, believe me, he had a real competitive edge.

I was fortunate enough to get into the England squad with him and we ended up playing together at Queens Park Rangers.

“fella” and he had a little phrase or quip for every occasion. We went to the World Cup in Mexico in 1986 and he got sent off against Morocco and I got in the side. He was disappointed and I effectively took his place, but he couldn’t have been more supportive. Win, lose or draw with Ray, he always had one thing about him – and that was called class.
