Corbyn rounds on Boris over false poison spy attack claim

- BY BEN GLAZE Deputy Political Editor

BORIS Johnson was embroiled in a row with Jeremy Corbyn over the Foreign Secretary’s spy poisoning bungle.

The Tory wrongly claimed Porton Down scientists had pointed the finger at Russia for the Salisbury Novichok attack on spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia.

Mr Corbyn said: “He claimed categorically – and I think he used the words 101% – that it had come from Russia. Porton Down have said they cannot identify the source of it.” Mr Johnson hit back on Twitter, saying: “It is lamentable that Jeremy Corbyn is now playing Russia’s game and trying to discredit the UK over Salisbury attack.” The Foreign Office deleted a previous tweet which claimed the experts had blamed Russia for the nerve agent assault.
