Wave power ‘lacks spark’
A WAVE energy plant that cost £42million uses more electricity than it produces.
In eight years not one supplier has used Wave Hub – funded with EU and government cash – to transfer power via its 10-mile under-sea cable to the National Grid.
Seatricity, which worked at the site off Hayle, Cornwall for two years, called it an “energy sinkhole”.
Owner Cornwall Council admitted: “The sector has not developed as quickly as originally hoped.”
