Crash driver ‘in flip-flops’

A SPEEDING lorry driver wearing flip-flops killed a great-grandmother as he ploughed head-on into her car, a court heard.

Mieczan Jaroslaw’s HGV hit a Fiat Panda driven by 86-year-old Maureen Smith in November.

He had done a steady 54mph, above the 50mph HGV limit, before the crash near Carlisle, Cumbria, the city’s crown court heard.

Polish Jaroslaw, 44, denies causing death by dangerous driving. The trial continues.
