Stranger things in Duffer lawsuit
THE Duffer brothers, creators of Netflix hit Stranger Things, could be in trouble after papers appeared to show they used the title and possibly ideas from a film.
Charlie Kessler claims in a lawsuit that 2012’s Montauk, which he produced, had as its centrepiece secret government experiments, a plot in Stranger Things.
Kessler says a meeting with the Duffers in 2014 did not reach a deal but the next year they cast for a series they called Montauk. Netflix said it was buying it with that title before it changed to Stranger Things. The Duffers’ lawyer Alex Kohner said Kessler’s claims were “meritless”.
