No benefit to the sick

-

CALLING a woman with terminal cancer to three fit to work tests shows the callous reality of a harsh benefits system.

The hounding of former mental health worker Krissy Johnson, 48, is not only cruel, but a waste of public time and money when, tragically, she is not going to get better.

This is not the first case of a person being treated with contempt by an insensitive welfare system, and it is unlikely to be the last.

Tory ministers who pretend that it is fair are supporting a process that grinds people down instead of helping them up.

Diagnosed with incurable metastatic breast cancer in 2015, Krissy deserves support and respect as she copes with a terminal illness.

The Department for Work and Pensions’ apology to her is not enough. We want the system changed for the better so this does not happen again. Only that will be good enough.
