Enders slips to 3rd spot in soap league

- BY MARK JEFFERIES

EASTENDERS is now officially our third soap as long-term ratings put it well behind ITV rivals.

Figures for the first three months of 2018 show it on 6.6 million viewers, trailing Corrie by 1.5 million and Emmerdale by 500,000.

It came as the BBC show failed to get a nomination in Soap and Continuing Drama at the Baftas for the first time since 2005.

But actress Kacey Ainsworth, Little Mo from 2000 to 2006, said the soap “will be back” after it was snubbed. She tweeted: “In the past few months EE has gone back to its roots, great characters, writers and actors, and it shows.”

A BBC spokesman said: “EastEnders continues to be one of the most popular shows on BBC1.”
