Sally’s Pony left out to pasture
Do the drugs work?
Sally Phillips has slammed telly bosses for refusing to pick up a remake of 90s all-female comedy Smack the Pony.
The actress, who was also in Miranda and Trollied, felt rejected after networks snubbed her idea to revive the Channel 4 hit she co-created.
She said: “I think it’s because we are all older. I think it’s also because producers are all men, and men find it hard to write for women.
“I don’t think there is an equal reflection in the industry.”
Sally also feels so “pressured” by TV bosses she has considered cosmetic procedures to get more acting work. She added: “I do believe they hold my age against me too. I suppose I am saggy around the edges and my eyes are wrinkled, I’m Botox-tempted, for sure.” COMIC HIT Sally Jon Hamm once worked as a set dresser for soft-core porn movies.
The Mad Men star, 47, started at the bottom after moving to Los Angeles looking for work, aged 25. He took over his pal’s “soul-crushing” job. “Literally, no one blinked,” Hamm, right, told Esquire magazine. Chris van Tulleken is back for a new series of The Doctor Who Gave Up Drugs.
Two years ago, Chris revealed we are taking more prescription drugs than ever and in his BBC1 show he worked with a GP to swap patients’ prescriptions for drug-free alternatives.
Now, he says we give kids three times more medication than 40 years ago and wants to find drug-free alternatives. A two-parter airs later this year.
