141 kids a day have a tooth out on wards
A CHILD has a tooth removed in hospital every 10 minutes, figures show.
Extraction due to preventable decay is the top cause of hospital admission for kids as more struggle to access NHS dentists.
Every day, 141 children – some just a year old – have teeth removed, according to Public Health England data.
It leads to around 60,000 missed school days a year and causes problems with eating and sleeping.
Tooth decay costs the NHS £3.4billion a year.
PHE’s Change4Life campaign urges swapping sugary drinks for low or no-sugar choices.
Dr Sandra White, of PHE, said: “It could be an easy win for busy families.”
