NOT SURE IF WE ARE JUST GOOD MATES

-

Dear Coleen

I’ve been with my boyfriend for a year and things are going great. I’m 23 and he’s the first real boyfriend I’ve had.

I’ve dated other guys who I’ve been attracted to, but they didn’t stimulate me intellectually, so they never turned into a relationship.

My current boyfriend and I have a real connection and we get on like a house on fire. I care about him a lot, but there is no passion or electricity.

Am I too young to be in this sort of a relationship? Does it sound like we’re just friends?

Please help, I’m really confused!

Coleen says

I don’t think it’s an age thing – no one should settle for someone who doesn’t excite them. And I’m not talking just sexually here, but in all aspects of your relationship.

You’re young and it could be that you simply haven’t met someone you want to make a longterm commitment to, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun exploring different relationships, as long as you’re honest about what you want.

Also, if you’re looking to inject more passion and excitement, then why not take the lead and see how your boyfriend responds?

He’s not a mind reader and probably thinks you’re perfectly happy with the way things are.
