Frost warms to chance of Milansbar

- BY DAVID YATES

BRYONY FROST was purring after her Grand National mount Milansbar schooled over the Aintree replica fences at Lambourn yesterday.

Frost will bid to make history as the first woman rider to win the world’s greatest steeplechase when the Neil King-trained 11-year-old lines up for the Randox Healthsponsored marathon on Saturday week.

And Milansbar, partnered by 22-year-old Frost when landing the Classic Chase at Warwick in January, showed an aptitude for the obstacles on Lambourn’s historic schooling grounds.

“This is the second time I’ve ever sat on him. The first time I sat on him was at Warwick and today was good,” said Frost. “I was happy.

“When I asked him, he delivered for me. He jumped those fences great.

“He’s worked really nicely. He’s come home happy with a prick on his ears and a smile on his face, and now he he’s having a pick of grass.

“It was spot-on — you can’t ask for a better day.”

Milansbar is a 33-1 shot for Aintree glory and Matchbook ambassador Frost, whose father Jimmy went into Aintree folklore with a triumph aboard Little Polveir in 1989, warned: “You need a hell of a lot of luck. You could be the best horse in the race but if one horse brings you down, that’s the end of the game.”
