Well-off South East is worst place for debt
THE rich South East of England is the debt capital of Britain with residents on average £5,650 in the red.
Meanwhile Scots are the best at managing their money, owing the lowest at £1,100 each.
A survey of 4,320 adults found a quarter rely on credit cards when cash runs out before pay day.
Londoners had £5,525 of debt on credit cards, loans and overdrafts excluding mortgages and those in the West Midlands £4,100.
At the other end of the scale people in the North West owed around £1,300.
George Charles, of VoucherCodesPro, warned: “It’s easy to see this money as ‘free money’ but it’s important to remember it does need to be paid back, typically with large interest rates.”
