KANE & VARDY TO PUEL RESOURCES

- BY JAMES NURSEY

LEICESTER boss Claude Puel insists a Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane strike partnership can be England’s route to glory at the World Cup.

Foxes striker Vardy scored his 15th Premier League goal of the season in last weekend’s 2-0 win at Brighton.

The speedy 31-year-old also netted his seventh England goal in 21 appearances against Italy last month.

But he didn’t get a chance to play with Kane, who was out injured.

Puel is convinced Vardy can be a perfect foil for Tottenham striker Kane.

Puel said: “I think Jamie will be a valuable player for the national team because he has different attributes to Harry Kane.

“He likes always to play just behind the defenders. Harry Kane can receive the ball, he can dribble – they can play together because they have different attributes.”

Vardy’s stunning volley at West Brom has been shortlisted for goal of the month in March.

But in his recent appearance as sub for England against Holland he failed to touch the ball in 22 minutes.

Puel added: “He’s a player who needs to have good service because he always likes to take space.”

Leicester’s title-winning skipper Wes Morgan (left) will lead out the Foxes today against the club who tried to sign him last summer. Newcastle dangled a lucrative longterm deal in front of the 34-year-old. He turned them down but now has just 12 months left on his Leicester contract.

Puel said: “Wes is our captain and a valuable player for us. He has a contract for next season and then we will see.

“I cannot say he can have six or seven years more but he is a valuable player for us and for the team. He’s a good professional with a good relationship with his team-mates.”
