Life is Peri tough on our streets...
Hollyoaks is working with homeless charities Centrepoint and The Whitechapel Centre on a special episode on the topic that features the character Peri Lomax.
On April 18, viewers will follow Peri as the show explores the vulnerabilities of homeless people.
Her mum Leela kicked her out of the family home after she told numerous lies, including faking a pregnancy. Peri then struggled to find anywhere to stay in Hollyoaks after making many enemies because of her behaviour.
In England, homelessness has increased by 15% annually, with 4,751 people sleeping on our streets on any given night in 2017. This is a 73% rise over the past three years.
Ruby O’Donnell, who plays Peri, said; “We were very fortunate to work with The Whitechapel Centre and meet people who have real-life experiences. Homelessness can happen to anyone.”
