Female genital mutilation

These are shocking stats. Between October and December last year, 1,760 women and girls in England attended the NHS where female genital mutilation (FGM) was identified or treated. There were 1,030 newly recorded women and girls in the same period. Newly recorded means this is the first time they have appeared in this dataset. It doesn’t indicate how recently the FGM was undertaken, nor does it mean that this is the woman or girl’s first attendance for FGM.
