I’VE FALLEN FOR WOMAN IN THE PUB

-

Dear Coleen

My girlfriend and I moved out of London to have a less stressful lifestyle 18 months ago. At first, things were great – we were in this honeymoon period and loved our new house and new life, and made lots of friends.

I go to a local pub and over the past few months I’ve got to know a woman who goes there, too.

At first we chatted as friends whenever we bumped into each other and then we started flirting, and now it’s a full-blown affair.

I have decided I want to be with her, but how can I leave my girlfriend after it was my idea to uproot our lives and move here?

Coleen says

When it comes to breaking up with someone there are no perfect circumstances or easy ways to do it – it’s going to be painful for her.

However, at the same time, I don’t believe in continuing a relationship you’re not happy in, especially when you’re betraying your partner by having an affair.

It would be worth taking a moment to think about what led you into this affair, particularly when things were great between you and your girlfriend when you first relocated.

Maybe you’ve realised you’re not ready for this kind of commitment or perhaps the move exposed cracks in your relationship.

It might be that you choose this woman and the excitement of the affair fizzles out when it’s out in open and when it becomes your life, but that’s the chance you take.

So pause and give it some thought because you’ll have to deal with the fallout from whatever choices you make.
