School staff unpaid due to Tory cuts
SCHOOLS are relying on teaching assistants and support staff doing unpaid overtime due to increased workloads and budget cuts, a survey shows.
Around a third work more than two days extra a month, while 13% put in a minimum of an extra seven hours a week.
The National Education Union survey found many workers felt undervalued.
Nearly eight in 10 (78%) are regularly doing overtime every week, with 73% blaming their workload.
Dr Mary Bousted, of the NEU, said: “Support staff are feeling the brunt of cuts as schools struggle to make ends meet.”
