Killer’s mental issues
THE man who killed two people and injured 20 others by driving a van into diners outside a restaurant in Germany had mental health problems, officials have said.
He had reportedly spoken of planning a dramatic suicide bid. The 48-year-old – named as Jens R – shot himself dead after the attack in Münster on Saturday.
Police found illegal firecrackers disguised as a bomb in the van, and a machine gun that no longer worked at his home nearby. In 2015 and 2016 he was accused of crimes such as making threats but the claims were dropped.
Police boss Hajo Kuhlisch said there is “no evidence of a political background”. A woman, 51, and a man, 65, were killed. Six were in a critical condition last night.
