Strikers? It’s all about me

-

I LIKED the fact Harry Kane tried to claim Christian Eriksen’s second goal against Stoke on Saturday, even though it was rightly awarded to the Dane in the end.

People will say, ‘‘Well isn’t it disrespectful to a team-mate, trying to nick a goal that way?’’ But I say, ‘‘You know what, sod ’em.’’

Ultimately, one goal can be the difference between a striker winning the Golden Boot and finishing an also-ran.

Having that mentality in the first place is what makes the Tottenham striker (above) the prolific goalscorer he is.

I remember Robbie Fowler scoring the winner in a 4-3 victory for Liverpool against Newcastle a year after I’d done exactly the same and my first thought was ‘Oh no.’

I watched the game back and thought ‘That’s awful of you, Stan,’ but that was my mentality.

I was delighted we’d won the game, of course I was, but strikers want to be the hero and on that occasion it wasn’t me.

I enjoyed seeing it from Kane.
