Munching on hottest chilli is a headache
A MAN needed emergency treatment after eating the world’s hottest chilli during a contest.
In the first recorded case of its kind, the 34-year-old suffered “thunderclap” headaches caused by arteries in his brain suddenly narrowing.
His distress was caused by a Carolina Reaper chilli, which is more than 600 times hotter than a typical jalapeno, journal BMJ Case Reports revealed.
The US authors said: “The symptoms began with dry heaves but no vomiting immediately after participation in a hot pepper contest where he ate a Carolina Reaper, the world’s hottest chilli. The pain was excruciating.”
But the unnamed man made a full recovery.
