BRITISH Gas’s inflation-busting average 5.5% price rise will scorch a big hole in 4.1 million customers’ pockets.

But instead of branding the increase “unjustified”, the Government should have changed the law already so energy suppliers are unable to exploit the public like this.

What’s equally unjustified is the slowness of Tory Ministers to champion consumers ahead of highly profitable corporations.

Energy is vital. We all need it. Yet the energy market isn’t working in our favour. And greedy British Gas ensures support will rise to end privatisation and restore public ownership.
