TRENT BENT ON DEFYING THE CRITICS

- BY DAVID McDONNELL

TRENT ALEXANDER ARNOLD believes a lack of fear is driving Liverpool towards Champions League glory.

Jurgen Klopp’s men find out tomorrow who they play in the semi-finals after swatting aside runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City.

A 2-1 win at the Etihad put them through 5-1 on aggregate, and Alexander Arnold warns the Reds are scared of no one in Europe.

“Throughout the whole tournament there hasn’t been a team who strike fear in us,” said the defender.

“We’ve looked at it from the start that we’re in it to win it. We’ve taken another step closer to the final. “Whoever we draw on Friday, we’ll look forward to the game.”

The 19-year-old was targeted by City as Liverpool’s soft spot but – apart from a tough first-half on Tuesday – he came out on top in his battle with Leroy Sane over two legs (above).

“I guess City looked at it and felt I’m the weak link,” said Alexander-Arnold, whose goal against Hoffenheim in the qualifying round in August started Liverpool’s Champions League journey.

“Maybe that gave me that underdog mentality and I tried to prove them wrong. I had to play to a better level than I’ve probably ever played before.”
