GOLDEN BOOOOOT
Liverpool stars incredulous as Kane awarded Stoke ‘goal’ by panel
HARRY KANE was last night awarded his 25th goal of the season – prompting ridicule from his rivals.
Liverpool’s Mo Salah, leading the race for the Golden Boot, responded to the Premier League ruling by tweeting “Wooooooow really?” Tottenham’s winner in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat of Stoke was credited to Christian
Eriksen. But Spurs appealed when Kane claimed the ball brushed him and a three-man panel agreed.
Kane now has 25 league goals, four behind Salah.
The Egyptian’s Liverpool team-mate Virgil van Dijk responded with an eyes-rolling emoji, which he later deleted, while teenager Trent Alexander-Arnold posted one with a thinking face.
England striker Jamie Vardy, who scored 24 times in Leicester’s title win two years ago, reacted with a tweet containing a raised-eyebrow emoji
Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer, the Premier League’s record scorer with 260 goals, joked: “I wonder if they will give me the other nine I also scored but were not given! #269 #appeal.”
The show’s presenter, Gary Lineker, whose 48 goals for England put him third on the Three Lions list, tweeted: “I can think of half a dozen for the national side I might claim.
“I was only 10 yards away from Platt’s volley against Belgium if that’s near enough? Could yet be England’s leading scorer.”
Kane insisted Eriksen’s free-kick grazed his shoulder on the way in.
