LEGEND LIVES

-

Ford is putting its might behind a campaign to transform mental health awareness. The firm has made a film that will be broadcast nationally which promotes the front of a car as a safe place to talk about mental health.

Research has revealed that only a third of men will talk about their feelings and another third reported that they’d feel embarrassed about seeking help.

It’s reckoned that one in four in the UK suffer from a mental health problem and that young men are particularly vulnerable. I’m about to attend the funeral of a friend’s son. He killed himself last month aged 47. He didn’t talk to anyone about his problems.

I’m too young to remember it in action but the Lotus 25 was the ground-breaking F1 car that dominated the 1963 grand prix season in the hands of Scottish legend Jim Clark.

Now, 25 Cup 430 Type 25s will be built, each in green or old English white livery. For your £110,000 you get 407bhp, a dry weight of 1,056kg and staggering performance.

With falling car sales dealers are having to lure punters through their doors with generous discounts. According to What Car? magazine the average discount achievable across all car sectors is 8.4%, or £2,560 per car. The biggest saving the magazine found was on a Seat Toledo 1.6 TDI 115 SE which could be had for 42.3% off list price! And even posh brands are at it. A Mercedes SL400 which retails at £76,985 can be had with a £17,061 discount. The rule is to haggle, haggle and haggle. Whatever you do, don’t pay the full price.
