GUY DISNEY toasted “a very special race” after meeting the unique challenge of the Grand National fences on Gallery Exhibition.

The former Army captain who lost his right leg below the knee when his vehicle was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in July 2009, was the first jockey with a prosthetic limb to ride over the famous obstacles.

And Disney completed the course when his mount Gallery Exhibition, trained by his friend Kim Bailey, came home last of the 12 to finish. “This is the sort of thing you would do every day until you die, if you could,” smiled the 36-year-old.

“That was a very special race to ride in and as long as I can do it, I’ll aim to ride in it again.

The race went to the Derek O’Connor-ridden Balnaslow, bettering his second placing of 12 months earlier.

O’Connor’s compatriot Jamie Codd was given a 17-day whip ban after landing the Goffs Nickel Coin mares’ National Hunt Flat Race on

Getaway Katie Mai.
