POWER PUTS OSCAR BACK IN SPOTLIGHT

-

MANIFESTO NOVICES’ CHASE

FINIAN’S OSCAR roared back to form to capture a first Grade 1 prize over fences.

Since early-season wins at Chepstow and Cheltenham, the Colin Tizzard trainee had met with three defeats over the larger obstacles, including a fifth in Cheltenham’s JLT Novices’ Chase last month.

But Finian’s Oscar, who had won over hurdles at the 2017 Grand National fixture, pounced late under Robbie Power to beat Rene’s Girl by two lengths.

“He’s on a learning curve,” said Tizzard. “Horses don’t have to be brilliant every time — as long as they can turn up here and win, we’re happy.”
