GENGE WON’T TEMPER HIS FIERY STYLE
LEICESTER prop Ellis Genge insists his fiery temper is a tool of the trade as he limbers up for today’s East Midlands derby against Northampton.
The 23-year-old (above) had his first start since December in last Saturday’s win at Bath after shoulder surgery and was warned by referee Wayne Barnes having been involved in three flare-ups at scrums.
But, as the Tigers look to secure a play-off spot, the loose head said: “For some reason I’m carrying around this dark cloud that means I’m Mr Angry but if you’re a prop and you haven’t a little bit of a temper you’re playing the wrong position.
“Everyone thinks I’m a raving lunatic to be honest but it’s not the case at all. It is just how I play – I am not frustrated in any way, shape or form. I just enjoy doing what I do.
“I’ve actually only given away one penalty for ill-discipline all season and that was against Bath.”
Struggling Saints were thumped 63-13 by Saracens last week and are still without Dylan Hartley, who has concussion, but they will have centre Luther Burrell back on the bench after shoulder trouble.
