Girl power is scaring bookies

-

BOOKIES are bracing themselves for a massive dent to their profits should one of the three female jockeys win today’s National.

If Katie Walsh, Rachael Blackmore or Bryony Frost become the first female jockey to triumph they will most certainly have been heavily backed.

Katie Walsh surprised everyone when finishing third on Seabass in 2012.

That’s Seabass the horse not a fish, which would have been an even bigger surprise.

Katie partners Ross O’Sullivan’s grey mare Baie Des Iles, who is trained by Katie’s husband. The winner of the National always has a back story, this one will take some beating.

Punters have had an affinity with grey horses dating long before Desert Orchid.

As a result Baie Des Iles has been backed down from 50-1 into 16s and will be shorter.

Bookies also report sustained support for Milansbar, ridden by rising star Frost.

If you’re backing a horse ridden by a female, do it now — and take the price.
