The Owls defender took one where it hurts for the team and was advised to pass up a spot of post-match passion.

Hunt (above) teed up the winner for Jordan Rhodes to finally banish Wednesday’s relegation worries as they climbed 12 points clear of danger.

But the full-back failed to make the final whistle after his eye-watering block kept out Kamil Grosicki’s stinging drive.

Hunt said: “Wow, that was the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life.” And his boss Jos Luhukay joked: “I can’t explain it well, but it’s in a very painful area. I said to Jack his wife must be careful and it’s not happening tonight.”

Add a second-half grey squirrel and there was plenty to take in on and off the ball as Rhodes headed home his seventh goal of the season to settle a tense Yorkshire derby between two sides contesting a place in the Premier League less than two years ago.

Hunt expects to return for Saturday’s visit by struggling Reading and he added: “It was a great win, a brilliant clean sheet and nice to get an assist as well.

“It’s another good three points and it’s nice to send the fans home happy. All we can try to do now is to finish the season strongly.”

Abel Hernandez had a stoppage-time effort ruled out for offside, so Hull must wait at least one more week to confirm another season in the Championship. Striker Jon Toral said: “The aim is to tie up safety as soon as possible.”
