Generation kicked in teeth
THOUSANDS who arrived here as kids as long ago as 1948 were told they may be kicked out. Those threatened include the first Commonwealth migrants on the Empire Windrush. Those arriving were automatically allowed to stay. That right was curtailed by the 1971 Immigration Bill.
Now new rules mean citizens must prove their right to be in the UK to rent property, work or access services and benefits.
But poor record keeping made it hard to prove eligibilty.
