Air horror as engine blast kills passenger
A PASSENGER died after a mid-flight jet engine explosion shattered one of the cabin windows, almost sucking a woman outside.
Passengers grabbed the female flyer after shrapnel from the blast broke the glass. Witnesses said there was “blood everywhere”.
“One passenger, a woman, was partially drawn out and pulled back in by other passengers,” said Todd Baur, dad of a person on the plane.
The victim died in hospital after the Southwest Airlines jet made an emergency landing.
Twelve others were assessed and seven had minor injuries.
The Boeing 737-700, flying 144 passengers from New York to Dallas, landed in Philadelphia.
Pilot Tammie Jo Shults was hailed a hero for bringing it down on one engine with no further loss of life.
Passenger Marty Martinez did a Facebook Live called “Something is wrong with our plane! It appears we are going down!” with snaps of what he feared were his “last moments”.
The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a probe.
