EU ‘is at war over values’

THE rise of authoritarian, nationalist leaders has thrown Europe into a “sort of civil war,” the French President has warned.

Emmanuel Macron told the European Parliament that the EU must do more to protect its values.

In a dig at re-elected Hungarian PM Viktor Orban, he hit at “illiberal democracies” taking root.

He said: “There seems to be a sort of European civil war. National selfishness and egotism seems to take precedence over what brings us together.”
