SORRY, SAM

Angry Allardyce claims Everton have admitted fans’ survey blunder

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

EVERTON have had to apologise to Sam Allardyce for asking fans to rate him as a manager.

Allardyce claims the club blundered by sending out the questionnaire to supporters and says chairman Bill Kenwright has said sorry. Big Sam is angry as he battles to survive beyond the end of the season with a large section of Goodison fans wanting him to go. But the former Bolton and West Ham chief bullishly claimed he would give himself “11 out of 10” for the job he has done since taking over in November. “From

my point of view, and the club’s, it was a mistake,” he said. “It’s allowed you to write some beautiful headlines.

“The chairman spoke to me. He, like me, didn’t think it was the right thing to do.

“The club’s director of marketing and communications has clearly slipped up. Our department has not been asked, ‘What do we think of this survey?’.

“But if you just come to the football department and say, ‘We have a couple of questions here, what do you think?’. Then we might have said, ‘We don’t think that’s appropriate’.

“The managing director of marketing clearly is not a great understander of football because he is into marketing, branding and market research.

“So he must have thought it was the right thing to do.”

When asked what mark he would give himself out of 10, Allardyce, 63, joked: “P**s off! Eleven!”

The Blues boss says he would be gutted if he was sacked in the summer.

He added: “It won’t make any difference to me until someone says, ‘Sam, you’re not wanted any more’.

“If that happened, I’d be more than disappointed.”
