‘Random’ double acid attacker jailed for 16 years

-

A MAN who threw acid through a car window at a model and her cousin has been jailed for 16 years.

Resham Khan and Jameel Muhktar, 37, suffered horrific injuries in the “random” attack by John Tomlin, 25, on Ms Khan’s 21st birthday. The cousins had “no previous dealings” with their attacker. At Snaresbrook crown court, East London, judge Sheelagh Canavan called the attack “somewhat random”. She said: “No sentence I impose can ever give back to the victims what you took from them.

“The court can only hope in time… they can begin to put the consequences of your unprovoked attack behind them. It is… a life’s work.”

Tomlin, of Canning Town, hurled acid through both front windows of the Renault Clio in Beckton, East London, last June. He was seen on CCTV chasing the car and emptying the bottle of acid over Mr Muhktar as he drove away.

The judge said both victims had suffered “dreadful and lifechanging” injuries. Both have since had severe depression and suicidal thoughts.
