Ex-boxing champ’s ‘take up arms terror plea on YouTube’
A FORMER boxing champion urged others to “take up arms” in a YouTube video, it was claimed.
Anthony Small, 36, was charged with encouraging terrorism over the video he is alleged to have posted in September 2016 under his own name.
Small, also known as Abdul Haqq, turned professional in 2004 and became British and Commonwealth light middleweight champ in 2009. He gave up boxing a year later because it clashed with his religious beliefs. Small, of Camberwell, South East London, appeared via video link at the Old Bailey in a grey T-shirt and tracksuit bottoms with a short beard. He spoke only to confirm his name and deny the charge. Judge Anthony Leonard QC remanded him in custody for a trial due to start on May 29.
