Everton’s Sam poll disgrace

-

I CAN’T believe Everton intended to undermine Sam Allardyce by surveying season ticket-holders and asking them to give him a mark out of 10.

But how would you feel if you discovered a questionnaire was going round your office, your factory or your shop floor asking colleagues if they trusted you to get the best out of your team? It doesn’t reflect the club in a very good light.

Big Sam arrived at Goodison Park with the club in a mess after Ronald Koeman’s sacking, little to show for £150million of new players and just one win in 12 games – a freak 3-2 win against Watford where they got lucky.

Has he done what it said on the tin and steered them away from trouble? Yes. Has he guided Everton into the top half of the Premier League? Yes.

Do the fans like Allardyce’s style of football? That’s a different question.

But scroll back to where they were in mid-November, and remind yourself how it looked five months ago.

I wouldn’t quite give Big Sam 11 out of 10, like the man himself – but he deserves high marks for doing the job he was brought in to do.
