HUGHES IS CUP SORCERER
MARK HUGHES hopes to prolong his stunning FA Cup record when he leads out Southampton at Wembley tomorrow.
The Welshman has won the Cup as a player four times (left, with Chelsea), but never managed a side in the semi-final at the legendary stadium.
Hughes said: “The competition itself is one that has figured highly in my career as a player and as a manager. I got to a number of cup finals as a player.
“But I’ve never been able to lead a team out at Wembley.”
And despite the Saints being haunted by relegation, Hughes wants his flops to reach the FA Cup final by overcoming Chelsea.
He added: “We can use it as a distraction. It’s fair to say we will have a go and give it our best shot and see where it takes us.”
