Docs spread superfungus
MEDICS spread a potentially lethal superfungus between patients via underarm thermometers.
A study found that, despite being washed, the thermometers still spread drug-resistant Candida auris to 57 intensive care patients at Oxford University Hospital.
The family of yeasts can cause complications in people with weakened immune systems.
Dr David Eyre, from the University of Oxford, said “multi-use” equipment needed to be investigated.
