SUM-THING SPECIAL IS ON FOR BEES

- BY ALEX SMITH

RYAN WOODS has the perfect equation: Three points plus three points = Premier League football at Griffin Park next season.

Brentford moved to within a point of the top six after chalking up an eighth game unbeaten with victory over QPR.

And if they beat Barnsley and Hull and make the play-offs, midfielder Woods reckons momentum will sweep them all the way to the top flight.

Other than Cardiff, who are still in pole position to go up automatically, Bees have not lost to any of their rivals currently sitting in the play-off places.

Woods said: “I think if we get two wins then there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be in there.

“There is always a team that sneaks in towards the end, and I’m hoping that we can be that team this year. We’ve got a massive momentum and confidence behind us and if we can get another three points against Barnsley next Saturday then the sky’s the limit.

“I think a lot of teams will be worried about us getting in there because the teams that are in there we’ve performed very well against.”

Sergi Canos thumped in his second goal of the season (above) and, despite Ollie Watkins seeing his penalty saved and Idrissa Sylla equalising for Rangers, Florian Jozefzoon extended the Brentford run with a clinical finish.

QPR boss Ian Holloway gave youngsters Paul Smyth and debutant Osman Kakay starts, and then admitted his eyes are already on next season. “I’m giving the young lads a chance because we are already safe and that’s really exciting,” he said.
