FRAMPTON GETS HIS WINDSOR PARK DREAM

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

CARL FRAMPTON will finally realise his dream of fighting at Windsor Park after proving he is back to his best against Nonito Donaire.

Frampton produced one of the finest performances of his career to beat four-weight world champ Donaire, 35, by a unanimous points decision to claim the WBO interim featherweight title.

Promoter Frank Warren has promised Frampton a big name next at his beloved Windsor Park in his native Belfast and the 31-year-old two-weight world champ is already excited.

“I can’t wait,” he said. “I’m excited about it already and I don’t even know who my opponent is.

“Oscar Valdez, I’d love Valdez, Lee Selby, Josh Warrington, I want a world title and that’s it. Boxing at Windsor has been on my mind for some time, now the boys are going to deliver.”

Frampton was thrilled by his display under new trainer Jamie Moore as he schooled Donaire. He boxed perfectly behind his jab and was in total control, apart from a nervy period in the 11th when the veteran Donaire briefly threatened a shock win.

“I had a simple game plan, there was nothing scientific about it – use my jab from the outside and when I got close, to stay close,” said Frampton.

“It showed a different side to me. I’m a boxer and I can box if I want to. I’ve got a whole lot of sides to my game and I think I showed that. It was a masterclass at times.”
