Jay’s first bite.. a nice slice of toast
THE moment Jay Crouch chews and swallows his first solid food is caught on camera.
In the heartwarming video clip, Jay begins to chew a slice of toast in front of mum Katie.
She tells her son: “It goes mushy, then it goes down your throat nicely. “This is what I do,” Jay tells her as he chews. Kate says: “You’re so incredible,” and is surprised when she sees Jay finishing the food, exclaiming: “Have you swallowed it? Good boy!” Jay asks: “Where does it go now?” and his mum traces a line on his tummy saying: “It goes down here, into here and into your stomach.”
He asks: “Where does my stomach go?” Katie replies: “Just there, then into your intestine and into your stoma [an artificial opening to allow waste to leave the body]”. It makes Jay giggle.
He looks at the stoma and says: “I can’t see any yellow toast... or brown.”
Mum Katie points out: “It takes a while to digest.”
