Student fury at ‘colonial’ bash for 21st
A STUDENT has been blasted for throwing a 21st birthday party on the theme of the British Raj.
Jack Prosser hosted the “Night at the Maharajah’s Palace” for dozens of pals.
The Facebook invite said it would be “a debauched throwback to the glory days of the early 20th century, where Britain and India lived side by side”.
The theme was to be “Indian glamour meets colonial chic”.
The party has upset the black and minority ethnic committee at Bristol University, where Jack is studying politics. The committee said: “We are deeply, deeply saddened.”
Jack said the invite had been changed to avoid colonial connotations.
He said: “This was never my intention.”
