Why is Meghan erasing her past?
Well, it looks as if there will be tumbleweed blowing down the left-hand side of St George’s Chapel in Windsor next month.
So far on the bride’s side the only family turning up is Meghan’s mum Doria. And possibly dad Thomas (even though he still hasn’t met Harry).
Instead, Meghan will be making up the numbers with the TV Supervet who cared for her dog, George and Amal Clooney, some co-stars from her show Suits and a few other minor celebrities who’ll scrub up nicely in the pictures.
It’s all starting to feel like one of those OK! Magazine weddings where Katie Price is always on the guest list taking centre stage in the family pic while the nan with her new dove grey hat and matching teeth is squeezed to the outer edges.
On the other side of the Atlantic a growing number of Meghan’s relatives are chuntering angrily about their missing invitations.
Missing from the list are her stepbrother and sister and a selection of uncles – including a retired diplomat and a bishop, who presumably can use a knife and fork, and possesses a wardrobe beyond lumberjack shirts.
It’s Harry and Meghan’s wedding so ultimately it’s up to them who is there.
The bigger issue is why Meghan wants to airbrush away her early years. OK, so some of her folk are well acquainted with the backseat of a police car and the tattooist’s needle.
But, as Peggy Mitchell would say, they’re family. And there is no indication they’ve ever treated her cruelly.
There is always a concern about someone who erases their past from their present.
Because if they’ve done it once they are more than capable of doing it again. And the wedding guest who should be most worried about that is our Prince Harry.
