Students on drugs ‘let off’
UNIVERSITY students caught with illegal drugs should not be reported to the police or expelled, their union says.
Disciplinary action “fails to recognise the complex reasons” behind drug use and can marginalise minorities, adds an NUS report.
It says students should not be punished for drugrelated behaviour that is not a criminal offence.
Almost 39% use drugs, it found. “Our study calls into question a punitive approach,” said the NUS.
