Hatton heist trial date for Basil accused

THE man said to be the Hatton Garden gems heist’s “Basil the ghost” will go on trial later this year.

Michael Seed, 57, stayed in his cell in Wandsworth Prison, South West London, rather than attend a plea hearing.

His lawyer said he had “no knowledge” of the Easter 2015 raid when a team stole valuables worth £14million.

Seed, of Islington, North London, is charged with conspiracies to burgle and to conceal or disguise criminal property.

The judge at Woolwich crown court fixed a trial date of September 24.
