Dire defending costs wasteful Gunners again as they fail to hold on against 10-man Atletico

- BY ADRIAN KAJUMBA

ANTOINE GRIEZMANN ruined Arsene Wenger’s European farewell to the Emirates with a precious late away goal for 10-man Atletico Madrid.

The French striker cancelled out Alexandre Lacazette’s opener for Arsenal to give Atletico the advantage going into next week’s semi-final second leg in Spain. Atletico overcame playing 80 minutes with 10 men and also seeing boss Diego Simeone sent to the stands to escape with a draw after a backs-to-the-wall

display. And that has put the 2010 and 2012 Europa League winners in pole position to reach next month’s final in Lyon.

Atletico saw Sime Vrsaljko pick up two yellows in the first 10 minutes. And Simeone was dismissed a few minutes later for an X-rated tirade at the referee. Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck said: “It’s disappointing to concede late but we know we can create chances against them.”
