MP’s assault file ‘cover-up by Tory whip’
A SENIOR Tory has been accused of trying to cover up allegations of sexual abuse by a fellow MP.
The unnamed whip is alleged to have destroyed a file on suspended Tory MP Charlie Elphicke.
Mr Elphicke, MP for Dover, had faced an accusation he fondled an aide’s breasts after they drank champagne together.
She is said to have later withdrawn the claim.
Mr Elphicke says he was told at a meeting also attended by Chief Whip Julian Smith that the file had been destroyed.
Mr Smith suspended Mr Elphicke months later and reported him to police over a separate rape claim.
Mr Elphicke denies both claims and has been questioned but not arrested.
