NOW HE KNOWS LIFTING GERS IS STEVIE G-NORMOUS TASK

-

STEVEN GERRARD was yesterday shown the size of the task he faces if he becomes Rangers manager.

The Glasgow giants were humbled by Old Firm rivals Celtic, who celebrated (right) sealing their 49th Scottish league title at Parkhead.

Liverpool legend Gerrard is expected to say yes to the Rangers offer this week, and will take former Anfield team-mate and ex-Scotland international Gary McAllister as his assistant.

He may need more help than that given yesterday’s performance.

Odsonne Edouard, on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, scored a first-half double and James Forrest, Tom Rogic and Callum McGregor made up the scoring. Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers said that, but for Rangers debutant keeper Jak Alnwick, the new champions could have bettered their record 7-1 win over Rangers, dating back to 1957. Rodgers said: “We scored five but it was probably going on seven or eight. Their keeper made some really great saves.”

Rodgers said the league title win was better than last season when Celtic went unbeaten in 38 games.

He added: “This title is definitely better than last year. I don’t think I could have asked any more of the players, they were brilliant.”
